Infer & Imply
Four Tools with Every Kit!
- Visual Bellringer
- Web-based Video
- Classroom Powerpoint
What You’ll Receive
- The bellringer presents several statements that represent a fact, opinion, or inference. Students decide which is which.
- The video likens an idea to a football. The quarterback makes an implication and the receiver takes it and is “infer” a touchdown. Next, we visit a country produce stand and examine the principles of inference through an “honor system” payment jar. Also, Elsie the Cow makes an appearance as we travel the highways and examine inferences we make along the way.
- The PowerPoint presentation asks students to make inferences about photographs. For example, students are shown graphic artwork and asked to imagine a commercial using the artwork. What kind of product would it promote?
- The worksheet requires students to read excerpts from great works of literature and make inferences to determine meaning.
