What You’ll Receive
This kit presents persuasive writing skills through the story of a dynamic extreme-sports teen. Students learn to identify pros and cons, organize thoughts, and follow general guidelines in order to write a convincing argument.
Common Core Standard: Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.
- Bellringer – The bellringer asks students to choose a sport or extracurricular activity and list several pros and cons.
- Video – An amazing teen athlete shares challenges and triumphs of her sport: wakeboarding.
- PowerPoint – Through the PowerPoint presentation, young writers learn the principles and components of a persuasive essay. Introductory paragraph, body paragraphs, and conclusive paragraph are explained. The elements of each are included, along with suggested strategies for a successful argument.
- Worksheet – Students are provided a review of the key points of a persuasive essay. They are asked to further research the topic of wakeboarding. Then, students choose a position and write a persuasive essay.
